It's not fun.I dread starting it up, but when I finally do, I don't wanna stop playing it.♥♥♥♥ me.. The remake\\reimagining of one of my favorite games ever. This is a one of a kind game that is absolutely NOT for everyone. Do not go into this expecting high octane action or jump scares. It's a slow burn thriller with a depressing and bizarre narrative. If you're looking for more quick thrills, play We Happy Few. This is the purest survival sim you'll ever find. Games like DayZ and Rust fail to simulate realistic survival since you're rewarded more for killing each other than working together with no real end goal in sight. In Pathologic, reputation is everything. You don't want to get on everyone's bad side otherwise they won't talk to you, trade with you, and they might just kill you on sight. The worse the town is, the harder your ability to complete your nearly impossible mission is. The social dynamic here is unmatched by any game. However, the game has some big flaws. Two patches later, it still runs like crap. I have a 1080 Ti and I play in 4k which shouldn't be a problem given the small world and dated graphics. However, while I get 60 FPS most of the time, it does dip often. Every conversation makes the game run at 45 FPS and the game just randomly drops in frame rate while navigating the town. There are a few graphical glitches I've found. The translation, while very good, has several grammatical errors. There's also the price given the content available. The original game gave three playable characters out of the box. This only has The Haruspex with the other two being released later. How will this be priced? Will they be their own games or DLC? Is it really worth spending more money to go through the same 12 day plague in the same town at the same time? We'll see. The hunger and thirst mechanics back when the original came out were cutting edge, but now, like We Happy Few, feels really dated and more annoying than anything. The plague system is still state of the art though and is the biggest selling point. How many people can you save? How long can you last without getting infected? How many quests will you abandon? How far are you willing to go to survive and find a cure?. I have no idea what is going on. But I have started selling organs for profit. As a Rimworld player, I think that means I am on the right track.. It's buggy and janky in a way that only low-budget Russian games are, but it's a brilliant masterpiece in every other way.. This game perfectly captures the slowly building atmosphere I love in thriller games, I have never played the original but so far, (just starting day 3) I can see why this series was loved by many. This game has so far built this uneasy tense atmosphere wherever you walk, nothing seems quite right and you don't know who to believe. You slowly see more and more evidence of "yep, this ain't right...♥♥♥♥♥ boutta go down" which is awesome, another recent game that did this was call of cthulu where you could witness the townsfolk go mad over time, I loved that, and this game seems to be doing this with the slow introduction of the plague. This game is very heavily narrative driven, if you aren't up for walking simulator-esque games then maybe give it a miss, a lot of walking is involved here. So far, what I have found interesting is the large amount of little side stories you can choose to follow or not (since you have limited time, you won't do them all) and watching how these stories affect your actions later on. If you are expecting a game where you can go in and just murder everyone in sight, also probably not your game...at least as far as I am in game, fighting is highly not recommended as this destroys your reputation around the town which makes key elements such as bartering very hard. I am a fan of the game's atmospheric SFX as you traverse through different zones too, it really adds to the atmosphere that the dark, drab and depressing environment is creating, as you cross through crumbling streets and decaying land surrounding the town. I should also mention, this game is no walk in the park (although you may walk in the town's parks if you wish) as hunger, thirst, energy and health all come into play here, which will have you scavenging and looting without mercy. You are also on a time limit, needing to finish your tasks up before your 12 days are up. You will find that at the start of the game, and most likely further on as the plague hits, combat is a major element, however in the first act you will need to be using your wits and stealth rather than actually fighting, as mentioned, this will annihilate your reputation in the town, and also, at the start of the game, the townsfolk will beat you to a bloody pulp. Do not worry, this is only temporary, however I am sure this may come into play again later in the game. Overall, this game is perfect for anyone looking for a thriller that will keep them on their toes, not knowing who to trust or what actions to take. I don't recommend this to anyone looking for a thriller/horror where you will be fighting and slashing your way through, or anyone who is expecting to jump straight into the meat of the game.. This game will put you through Hell. You will live in Hell. You will suffer through Hell. You will be burned in the fires of Hell. Over. And over. And over. You will turn to theft, even murder, all for a crumb of bread, only to watch it turn to ash in your mouth. You will butcher, rob your victims of their organs, all for a chance to get out, as you watch your Kinfolk vomit up black bile and die in the streets of plague. This game is Hell. But if there were ever a reason to fight your way through Hell, it is this game.
